Troop 500 Summer Camps
Past and Future
2026: Where to Scouts?
Troop 500 will be voting on summer 2026. Have any preferences?
2025: Camp Constantin
Camp Constantin/Jack D. Furst Aquatics Base is at Possum Kingdom Lake in Palo Pinto County, Texas. With over 385 acres it incluides six miles of shoreline that look towards the majestic Castle Cliff on Possum Kingdom Lake. Our camp was right on the shoreline, and we enjoyed the many programs and beautiful scenery. Plus, the temperature this year wasn't as hot as most, and there was always a good breeze.
2024: Camp Strake
Troop 500 spent summer 2024 at Camp Strake, a facility on 2,816 acres surrounded on three sides by Sam Houston National Forest. Everyone loved the facility there and someday we may well be back!
2023: Lost Pines
With 542 acres, Lost Pines is on the northern shore of Lake Bastrop. Home to the tallest climbing tower in Texas, our Scouts spent hours sailing, fishing, shooting, and sweating...but we loved it! This summer we camped at Provisional, a great location close to the chow hall.
2023: Philmont
In 2023, some of our Scouts did a High Adventure trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. With more than 214 square miles, the Scouts and Leaders spent a week backpaking through the rugged northern New Mexico wilderness.
2022: Lost Pines
Troop 500 went to Lost Pines in 2022. Camping at Fish, we were pleased to find the bath/restroom facilties at that site were back in operation, newly remodeled. Another great summer of memories.
2021: Camp Karankawa
Our first summer camp after Covid, Camp Karankawa, near Mathis, Texas is adjacent to Lake Corpus Christi. Unfortunately, due to the challenges of post-Covid, the aquatics program wasn't able to operate that session so we had to sweat it out without use of the lake or pool and none of the usual canoeing and sailing programs. Even so, we made the best of things and were glad to be back to Scouting after a year of Zoom meetings!
2020: "Camp Covid"
The summer of 2020, during Covid, we camped in our own backyards if we camped at all. Boo. But at least we'll have stories to tell our grandkids someday of the year we spent at home... and learned about Zoom meetings!
